Must the written word only be found in books, magazines, newspapers, posters and web-pages? An alternative is the broadside. Broadsides are created by using text from poems, passages from novels or other works of fiction and non-fiction. Special paper is cut or torn creating a smooth or deckled (the rough untrimmed edge of paper left by a deckle or produced artificially) edge. The text is formed from hand-set metal type (each letter of the "type" is a separate piece of metal).
Often, but not always, artwork accompanies the text of the piece. The broadsides we offer have a carved wood block image that illustrates the poem. The paper is fed into a press (by hand) and may pass through several times if multiple inks are used. Offered below are broadsides of poems of poets we’ve hosted over the years. All are limited to the number of copies indicated and have been autographed by the writer. These unique works of art make a great gift for any occasion.
