Scott North

Scott North has been a courts and police reporter with The Herald in Everett, Washington, since 1987 and is also now an assistant city editor.  Major projects have included investigation of the origins of gang activity in Guatemala. North is profiled in the book, Covering Violence: A Guide to Ethical Reporting about Victims & Trauma, for his sensitivity to victims of violence and to the survivors of violence. The profile notes that North and his colleagues on the Snohomish County daily newspaper use a team approach to reporting.

“ . . . they cover crime with depth, breadth, and an eye for future stories.  Most innovative of all, they invite the community into the process.”

He is a Dart Center Ochberg Fellow and serves as an officer of the Dart Society, the non-profit organization formed by North and other journalists who have received special training regarding emotional injury.
